The 2007 Chicago Gay Pride parade was yesterday and whoo boy did I have a good time. We watched the festivities from a balcony overlooking Halsted St. which turned out to be a little more fun than being on the sidewalk. Here are some pics I took with my crappy camera phone.
Here's a crappy video of Dykes on Bikes, whom I love despite the fact that I'm straight and I don't care much for motorcycles:
And here's an equally crappy video of the always fun R.O.T.C boys, whom I also love:
Read about it here. I for one think it's all very exciting but I guess I'm a silly optimist. I can practically hear the collective whining and foot stomping from all over the city but come on, what a great honor for any city.
My friend pointed out that we'll be 36 in 2016, which eeks me out just a little!
3 Chicago fires investigated; 4 die in one fire
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- An apartment building fire killed three men and a woman Saturday on the city's North Side, and two other suspicious fires were reported nearby around the same time, authorities said.
Investigators were looking into possible links between the fires, which took place within blocks of each other in the city's Wrigleyville neighborhood, named for its proximity to Wrigley Field, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
Way too scary and close to home, thanks. We went by there a few hours ago and there were still news crews hanging around. I guess a big arson story is interesting, so expect to see it on the 10 o'clock news.
I don't know what it is but bad things seem to happen a lot in that little area around the El stop and Wrigley Field. I guess it's just the sheer amount of people coming and going.
I just came back from stopping at the bank, 7-11, and the grocery store. First of all, it's really, seriously, scary cold. I am never leaving this apartment again. My legs almost fell off! But now I have snacks, so I guess it was worth almost losing a couple of limbs.
Second of all, I'm glad I don't work in a bank or grocery store today because I just don't own a Bears jersey and then my co-workers would be like "Dude, where's your Bears jersey?" And I'd have to say "I don't have one, leave me alone."
If you're wondering about the *mood* here in Chicago on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY, all I can tell you is that my immediate area (East Lakeview, aka Boystown) is certainly a lot busier than it would be on any other freezing cold Sunday. I'm not expecting a whole lot of commotion if the Bears do win but you never know what will happen around here!
Go Bears yay woo.
So like everyone else on Vox, I started a new group - Chicago! The city, not the musical... or the band. I'm curious to meet other Chicago Voxers so I jumped on creating the group superquick. :)
