Word is that U2 is working on a new album due out in November (squee!). Completely unrelated to that, I was listening to "War" earlier today and then found this tonight. I forgot this video even existed.
Three things:
1. I don't get the acrobats, at all.
2. I'm not sure why this song was picked for a video. I love it because I'm a U2 fan but it doesn't really go with "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day," in terms of picking singles.
3. Cuties. They're all in their way early 20's in this video.
It's been years since my last Tori Amos moment. The last moment wasn't really a moment as much as a pocket-emptying, must follow her ass around the midwest "problem." So I've been kind of over the whole thing for a few years now but I will say two things:
1. "American Doll Posse" is better than I was expecting.
2. Tori does really, really good cover songs.
To wit, one of my favorite 80s songs:
And another really good cover, this one you have to listen to just for the story about Morrissey at the beginning.
This is a cover of the Knife song "Heartbeats," heard at the end of tonight's episode of Scrubs. At least Scrubs is still good for interesting musical choices. I used to think it was one of the best comedies on TV but the last couple of seasons have been very meh. I'll be sad to see it go, though.
So I got these magical new earbuds and it's like I'm rediscovering all this music I've heard a billion times but it's better because I can HEAR it. My neighbors can probably hear when I clear my throat, so I try not to listen to music super loud but with these puppies, I can HEAR again. I CAN HEAAAAAR.
Alright, so I'm going through my iPod and the music I have on my laptop and these songs sound EXTRA super good:
Beatles: Tomorrow Never Knows
Steve posted about that "Love" CD and that got me thinking about my favorite Beatles songs and "Tomorrow Never Knows," while completely random, is my favorite. I don't know why, it just is. There are a lot of cover versions of this song and they're all pretty bad heh.
Simon & Garfunkel: The Sound of Silence
This song is tucked away in my brain somewhere and once every few years, a synapse misfires and I'm like "I NEED TO HEAR THAT SONG IMMEDIATELY." So yeah, I had to buy it off iTunes but it's worth the $1.
Tori Amos: Do It Again
As in Steely Dan's "Do It Again" but it's so completely different. Just give it a listen.
I've been kind of bored with the new stuff that's out there these days (damn kids and their rock music) so it's nice to re-discover stuff I already know I like.
But this new U2 video is making my day a little better.
I finally got to hear Jennifer Hudson's version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and now I'm sitting here sniffling like a big goob. First of all, her version is astounding. There aren't many people who could sing that song and do it justice but she THROWS DOWN. Secondly, I'm just so happy for her! I was worried that she wouldn't get a big break after American Idol but this is the biggest break the girl could've asked for. Yay Jennifer!
Good thing it's one of my favorites!
So I'm going to see Morrissey tonight with Andrew. I can't say that I'm a big ol' Morrissey fan but he's only doing one show in the US and it's here so eh, why not? The bad thing is that I'm nothing but sleepies and I want to take a nap. See, most people are energized and excited about short work weeks. I'm just pooped and in need of a break. Anyway, this should be interesting and if not, eh.
I listen to this song every year, cause I'm so goth and stuff.
I thought this performance was beautiful.
